Letter From the Principal

Dear CAT Families,

Our spirited, annual family picnics were a success this year largely due to the parent and guardian contributions. The beautiful feasts were put together entirely through donations of time and money from CAT families. Thank you for helping CAT have a great community building day! This certainly kicks off a strong start to families fulfilling four hours of giving time to the school.

In the academic realm, 1st quarter ends in three weeks on October 16th. Please stay in close touch with your student's advisor if you have any questions about his/her progress. Right now is the time for all students to get on track, if they aren't already. Some resources include before and after school support in the learning center (TLC), or getting direct help from teachers.

As part of getting students ready for the end of the quarter, this week we have our first student success days (SSD's) on September 28th for 9th and 10th graders and October 1st for 11th and 12th graders. Students are required to stay after school until they complete the work designated by their teachers. Please support your students by reinforcing the expectation that they attend student success day.

Lastly, we're already getting ready for next school year by informing 8th graders and their families about CAT. If you're interested in talking with prospective families, please contact me; parent voice adds an important dimension at our information nights.

I hope this letter finds all of you well. Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Sincerely,
Allison Rowland
Principal

CAT Challenge Day Needs Your Help!

CAT is again having Challenge Day this year and we are looking forward to having volunteers to spend time with our students as we help build community through the facilitation of Challenge Day organizers. If you are interested in volunteering, please respond to me via email and I will write you in as a volunteer.

We need volunteers from 8:15am to 3:45pm on Wednesday October 7, 2009. Lunch will be provided by our wonderful Parent Teacher Organization, so no need to bring food.

In case you are unaware of what Challenge Day is, you can go to this link: http://www.challengeday.org/our_program/what-to-expect.html
Thanks so much in advance for your time!
Sincerely,
Paul Koh - pkoh@es-cat.org

Language Arts Persuasive Essay -- Solar Family

Check in with your student about the persuasive essay. Some used class time wisely and wrote their introduction and first paragraph while others chose not to use the time wisely and now have HOMEWORK. Please make sure your student comes to school next week with a completed speech introduction and first paragraph.

Electives!

Hello all! Students will be choosing electives in their Advisories Thursday & Friday of this week (9/3 & 9/4). Elective rosters will be posted on Wednesday 9/9 at CAT, and electives will start Thursday 9/11/09. Please encourage your student to sign up for an elective - all students need to take at least one elective per year! Electives also look great on college applications and job applications!
