The 11th & 12th grade students in American Literature will be studying the text Kindred by Octavia Bulter as part of the next unit. The Juniors will be embarking on their first graduation portfolio task in literary analysis. At this time, we could REALLY use some donations of the book... Please take a minute to look around your home and see if there are any extra copies you would be OK with donating to the kids. Also, there are many cheap used copies available at Amazon if you would like to donate a copy. Copies of Kindred can be sent to the school through your student or colleague.

Letter From the Principal
Dear CAT Families,
Our spirited, annual family picnics were a success this year largely due to the parent and guardian contributions. The beautiful feasts were put together entirely through donations of time and money from CAT families. Thank you for helping CAT have a great community building day! This certainly kicks off a strong start to families fulfilling four hours of giving time to the school.
In the academic realm, 1st quarter ends in three weeks on October 16th. Please stay in close touch with your student's advisor if you have any questions about his/her progress. Right now is the time for all students to get on track, if they aren't already. Some resources include before and after school support in the learning center (TLC), or getting direct help from teachers.
As part of getting students ready for the end of the quarter, this week we have our first student success days (SSD's) on September 28th for 9th and 10th graders and October 1st for 11th and 12th graders. Students are required to stay after school until they complete the work designated by their teachers. Please support your students by reinforcing the expectation that they attend student success day.
Lastly, we're already getting ready for next school year by informing 8th graders and their families about CAT. If you're interested in talking with prospective families, please contact me; parent voice adds an important dimension at our information nights.
I hope this letter finds all of you well. Looking forward to seeing you soon!
Sincerely,
Allison Rowland
